The MEB comes to China
In preparation for its worldwide e-mobility campaign, the Volkswagen brand has taken an important step together with its Chinese partners FAW and SAIC. The recently signed contracts regulate how the Chinese joint ventures SAIC Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen will work together in the future to produce electric vehicles. The modular electric drive matrix (MEB) is the basis for Volkswagen automobiles that will be built in China starting in 2020. The
MEB is the most important Group platform of the future, and a trailblazer in electric mobility for the Group. The MEB technology is specifically designed for electric drives. It is an extensive matrix for the emission-free mobility of the future; at the same time, it is attractively designed, flexible in its construction, and its interior can be adapted to the individual preferences of customers. China will be an important market for Volkswagen in the area of electric mobility. Over the coming years, plug-in hybrid models and battery-operated electric models will be introduced and produced in China.
Award for the Arteon
This year, the Arteon has won one of the most prestigious European automobile awards: the Golden Steering Wheel. Head of Development Frank Welsch received the prize from German presenters Barbara Schöneberger and Kai Pflaume (above) in Berlin. “We are very pleased,” he said, “that the Arteon has had such a good resonance with the readers of Auto Bild and Bild am Sonntag. You can see how much passion we have put into the development of this sporty four-door model. I regard the Golden Steering Wheel 2017 as recognition for the entire Volkswagen team.” A panel of 52 judges was impressed by the Gran Turismo’s features: a top quality chassis, great steering, and a good engine. This year’s Golden Steering Wheel winners also had to submit to an independent exhaust test in the exhaust emission center at the Lausitzring race track. The result: all the winners maintained the values on the road that they promised on the test bench – including the Arteon, our champion in the mid-range and luxury segments.
Arteon: Fuel consumption in l/100 km: 7.3 to 4.4 (combined), CO emissions in g/km: 164 to 114 (combined), efficiency class: C to A+
