Helping young kids with paintbrush and roller

Employees have renovated a primary school near the Volkswagen plant in Uitenhage.

They painted walls, repaired a playground, and planted a lawn. Some 180 employees of Volkswagen South Africa have renovated a primary school in KwaNobuhle in their free time. The school has 32 teachers and more than 1,100 students. Since it was founded, it has become a place of hope for the largely poor community of KwaNobuhle. So of course the employees enjoyed their work at the school even more.

It was their 14th volunteer project in the Nelson Mandela Bay region, which is home to the Volkswagen plant in South Africa, and their 21st Show of Hands project in the country at large. This volunteer campaign focuses on education and helping young people. Thomas Schäfer, managing director of Volkswagen South Africa, praised this latest volunteer effort by the employees in their home community.
