This up! ups the ante

Fans of the GTI are celebrating the first up! GTI at Wörthersee. Brand CEO Herbert Diess had special praise for the show cars, built by trainees at three different locations.

At the legendary Wörthersee meet in the Austrian town of Reifnitz, a new sports car celebrated its world premiere – the up! GTI. Thousands of fans from all over the world could barely contain their excitement.

The new up! GTI has an 85 kW/115 hp three-cylinder turbo engine with a powerful torque under the hood. Weighing just 997 kilograms, with a top speed of 197 km/h, and only 8.8 seconds needed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, it really knows how to rip loose. It does this in the classic GTI guise of tornado red, white, or silver metallic, as well as in a new blue GTI hue, Costa Azul.

The interior is everything a GTI expert would expect, with the legendary gear knob and seats with a checked pattern. The GTI up! is the third member of the GTI family, alongside the Polo and Golf. The snappy sports car will bring new thrills to the compact class from early 2018.

GTI-style driving pleasure is also promised by the two show cars constructed by more than a dozen trainees from Wolfsburg, Braunschweig, and Zwickau. GTI fans from all over the world, and Brand CEO Herbert Diess, were all impressed by the Golf GTI First Decade, which can now operate electrically, and the GOLF GTE SportWagen impulsE. Diess was full of praise: “Our trainees have done a great job.”

Trainees from Wolfsburg and Braunschweig, along with Brand CEO Herbert Diess, are looking forward to the 410 HP Golf GTI First Decade (above). The sporty compact in GTI format is attracting the attention of many fans.
