Higher seats, more variability, more space – these are the features distinguishing the Golf Sportsvan from the other Golf family members. It has been on the market since summer 2014. Now it is getting an update with three new TSI engines, more assistance systems, a new gesture-controlled information system and a wider range of standard equipment.
The most defining features of the Golf Sportsvan update are its technical innovations. Particular highlights include the new, gesture-controlled 9.2-inch radio navigation system “Discover Pro”. Farewell to conventional buttons and controls, which “Discover Pro” no longer needs, since many of its operations are done by touchscreen. In addition, the “Media Control” app provides an interface for tablets and smartphones. The connection is provided by a Wi-Fi hotspot. This means that you can simply select music or start the navigation system on your tablet, from any seat in the Sportsvan. Or you can choose the “Security & Service” package, which can automatically report accidents, call the breakdown service or make an appointment at the garage.
The Golf Sportsvan update includes several new assistants for more safety and convenience. These include Pedestrian Monitoring, the Traffic Jam Assist, which enables partially automated stop-and-go driving up to 60 km/h, Emergency Assist, and also the Trailer Assist. This last electronic helper facilitates reversing with a trailer.
As for engines, three TSI gasoline and two efficient TDI diesel engines have been added. The two stronger TSI engines have active cylinder management on board. This deactivates two of the four cylinders in particular driving situations, thus reducing consumption and emissions.
Pre-sales of the Golf Sportsvan begin in Germany in the autumn.
