Kayaker Sabrina Hering celebrates silver

The Volkswagen employee has every reason to be happy.

The German national women’s soccer team beat Sweden 2:1 in the final. Its players include Alexandra Popp, Almuth Schult, Lena Goeßling, Babett Peter, and Isabel Kerschowski, all of whom play for VfL Wolfsburg, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft. The opposing side included yet another member of the “Wolves” – Nilla Fischer, who despite the defeat was still happy to get silver.

Å day later came a second silver medal. The women’s kayak four with Sabrina Hering took second place in the 500-meter sprint, beaten only by Hungary. A 24-year-old specialist in office communications who has a sports support position with Volkswagen Sports Communications, Hering works as a clerk in the human resources department for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

“Seven medals is an outstanding result. It’s hard to imagine more. Especially for Sabrina Hering, who has to combine top-level sports with her job,” says Martin Rosik, Head of Human Resources for the Volkswagen Passenger Car brand. “We were very pleased to see her on the winners’ podium. The only way to achieve that is to have great ambition and put in an extraordinary amount of hard work. Her medal is good news during a difficult time. And it confirms our program of sports support positions, which gives talented athletes from our company the assistance they need,” Hering, who has completed her apprenticeship at Volkswagen, is allowed free time for training and competition during working hours.
