An SUV for South America

Regionalization: Volkswagen is investing €560 million in the Pacheco site. This also represents a further boost to the brand’s worldwide SUV campaign.

A cloudless sky, 29 degrees ­Celsius. And a great atmosphere in Pacheco, a town located right outside Buenos Aires that is the southernmost site in the Volkswagen world The brand is investing €560 million here for the production of a new SUV. Starting in 2020, the factory will be supplying all of South America with the new model, and around 2,500 jobs will be created in the process. This also represents another boost to Volkswagen’s South America strategy.

“The TRANSFORM 2025+ strategy is enabling us to lay the foundations for growth on the international markets. Argentina is a key player in this regard,” said brand CEO Herbert Diess at a meeting with Argentine President Mauricio Macri. Two key elements of the growth strategy are the largest model campaign in the history of the brand, along with the comprehensive regionalization of the company’s business. One milestone will be the new vehicle from Argentina. The SUV’s design, size, and features are expected to appeal to a broad range of customers around the South American continent.
